GRASS as GIS open Source in Ubuntu

We are oftenly using some GIS aplication licensed in windows like ArcView, ArcInfo, ERmapper or the other. How about open source in GIS application. There many too open source application, but the most famous is GRASS. This application contain many feature, for reading, analisys, mapping, edit and many of your spatial or remote sensing data.

Commonly referred to as GRASS, this is a Geographic Information System (GIS) used for geospatial data management and analysis, image processing, graphics/map production, spatial modelling, and visualization. GRASS is currently used in academic and commercial settings around the world, as well as by many governmental agencies and environmental consulting companies.
GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) is a raster/vector GIS, image processing system, and graphics production system. GRASS contains over 350 programs and tools to render maps and images on monitor and paper; manipulate raster, vector, and sites data; process multi spectral image data; and create, manage, and store spatial data. GRASS uses both an intuitive windows interface as well as command line syntax for ease of operations. GRASS can interface with commercial printers, plotters, digitizers, and databases to develop new data as well as manage existing data.
Many data format that support to input or to create in GRASS, as generally the data devide 3 kind, tah is :
* 2D raster data,
* 3D raster data (voxels),
* topological vector data (2D and 3D)
n detail:

RASTER: The GDAL library (r.in.gdal) is used, see the GDAL project format list for full capabilities. Examples include:

* Raster: ASCII, ARC/GRID, E00, GIF, GMT, TIF, PNG, ERDAS LAN, Vis5D, SURFER (.grd) ...
* Images: CEOS (SAR, SRTM, LANDSAT7 etc.), ERDAS LAN, HDF, LANDSAT TM/MSS, NHAP aerial photos, SAR, SPOT, ... can be read

VECTOR: The OGR library (v.in.ogr) is used, see the OGR project format list. Examples include:

* Vector: ASCII, ARC/INFO ungenerate, ARC/INFO E00, ArcView SHAPE (with topology correction), BIL, DLG (U.S.), DXF, DXF3D, GMT, GPS-ASCII, USGS-DEM, IDRISI, MOSS, MapInfo MIF, TIGER, VRML, ...
* Sites (vector point data lists): XYZ ASCII, CSV, dBase, ...

If you want to install GRASS in your ubuntu or the other distro linux. Just go to GRASS Website in page dowenload, and follow the instruction to install it

Globe Weather from Satellite

As a government officer in Meteorological, I must concern in weather activities. Not only from observation whit many tool such as thermometer or barometer, but also from computerize technology. You can use remote sensing to observ the atmosfer, then you can reanalysis to make some information of weather that usefull for people. Today I want to learn you how to make some analysis with satellite imagery

The first way to analysis image satellite is we must have some image. You can use image from data format JPEG, raw format, or other. But I am only explain the data from JPEG. As your consider the weather satellite specially from Geostationary Satellite have 3 channel that common to analysis. There are infrared, water vapour, and visible.

If you live in Asia or Australia, you must get data from MTSAT or FengYun because only 2 this sattelite that cover your region. If you live in america, you can choose GOES Imagery. To download data from MTSAT you can go to www.jma.go.jp and if you want to see imagery from fengyun you can go to www.app.nea.gov.sg there you can download the IR, WV or VIS the inisial from the chanell.

Visible satellite images are photographs of the earth that provide information about cloud cover. Areas of white indicate clouds while shades of gray indicate generally clear skies. Visible images represent the amount of sunlight being scattered back into space by the clouds, aerosols, atmospheric gases, and the Earth's surface. Thicker clouds have a higher reflectivity (or albedo) and appear brighter than thinner clouds on a visible image. However, it is difficult to distinguish among low, middle, and high level clouds in a visible satellite image, since they can all have a similar albedo and for this distinction, infrared satellite images are useful.

Infrared satellite measurements are related to the brightness temperature. For an infrared picture, warmer objects appear darker than colder objects. Since temperature in the troposphere decreases with height, high level clouds are colder than low level clouds.

Images (a) and (b) are examples of visible and infrared satellite images respectively (valid for the same time).

(a)

Visible images measure scattered light and the example here depicts a wide line of clouds stretching across the southeastern United States and then northward into Ontario and Quebec.

(b)

In contrast, are related to brightness. Therefore, the clouds over Louisiana, Mississippi, and western Tennessee in image (a) appear gray in the infrared image (b) because of they are lower and have relatively warm cloud tops. The warmer the temperature, the lower the clouds, the darker the color.

From Alabama northeastward into New York is a region of deep convective clouds that appear bright white in both pictures. Because of their higher cloud tops, these clouds are bright white in both images because of their high reflectivity and extremely cold cloud top temperatures.

The clouds in Canada probably high thinner cirrus and cirrostratus clouds. They have lower reflectivities and therefore appear somewhat darker in the visible image (a) but because of their higher altitudes and colder cloud tops, they appear bright white in the infrared image (b).

Color enhancement is a procedure where specified levels of energy -- in this example, infrared energy -- are given a specific color. this makes locations with the desired energies easier to locate. Shades of yellow and orange represent infrared energy emissions consistent with strong thunderstorms. This is because infrared energy is proportional to brightness temperature, and the highest cloud tops are colder than those at lower altitudes (the highest cloud tops are typically associated with the strongest thunderstorms).

These images have been extracted from the same data, however color enhancement uses colors ranging from purple to red to make certain features stand out. Such features are not as easily observed in gray scale images.

Water vapor images are useful for pointing out regions of moist and dry air, which also provides information about the swirling middle tropospheric wind patterns and jet streams
Darker colors indicate drier air while the brighter the shade of white, the more moisture in the air. In the image above, very dry air was present from Oklahoma into Illinois (indicated by the dark colors). Bright white plumes stretching from Missouri to South Carolina indicate the very moist air associated with thunderstorms occurring in the area

Firefox 3 Release !!

Firefox 3 was release on 17 june 2008, the mozilla expect they can broke the guiness record world. but today as user of firefox, i really want to upgrade my firefox. There is some trouble, in download in www.spreadfirefox.com, i can go the the download button, maybe because the server is down (to many people download it.

As a reference if you want to see their feature, but the most i like is firefox 3 will integrated with spyware from google, so there will be a notification if you visit bad website..

Improved Tabbed Browsing
We love tabs as much as you do, so Firefox will open new web pages in tabs by default. Each of those tabs has its own close button, but don't worry - if you accidentally close a tab, just go to the History menu to bring it back from the list of "Recently Closed Tabs." You'll never be crunched for space anymore, either. When you have too many tabs open to comfortably fit in a single window, scroll arrows will appear on either side, and a button on the right side will always show you an easy-to-read list of all your open tabs. Check it out!

Spell Checking
Sometimes you're in a rush, and can't remember if it's "i" before "e" or the other way around. Firefox has built-in spell checking to keep you from making any mistakes in your blog posts and Web-based email, so you can worry about more important things.

Search Suggestions
Some of the search engines in Firefox can read your mind, and actually suggest search terms for what you're looking for. Just start typing into the Search bar, and a drop down list of suggestions will appear. (Works for Google, Yahoo! and Answers.com.)

Session Restore
Losing your place while you're doing things on the Web is a pain. Now, with Session Restore, if Firefox has to restart or closes when it comes back you'll pick up exactly where you left off. The windows and tabs you were using, the text you typed into forms, and the in-progress downloads you had running will all be restored. You can even set Firefox to always restore your previous session instead of loading a home page, so you'll never lose your place again.

Web Feeds (RSS)
What do news headlines, indie rock podcasts, and pictures of kittens have in common? They're all things that you can subscribe to with Web feeds. Firefox gives you full control over Web feeds, showing you a preview and letting you choose how you want to subscribe. You can use a Firefox Live Bookmark, or a feed reader that you've installed on your computer, or through a Web service such as My Yahoo!, Bloglines or Google Reader.

Live Titles
Keep an eye on that auction or the status of a delivery using the new Live Titles feature in Firefox. Compact enough to fit as a bookmark label, Live Titles are regularly updated summaries of the most important information on a Web page. As the information on the page gets updated, so does your Live Title.

Integrated Search
Firefox helps you find whatever it is that you're looking for. The Search bar comes pre-loaded with search engines for Google, Yahoo!, Amazon, eBay, Answers.com, and Creative Commons. Wherever you are on the Web, you can enter a search term in the Search bar and receive immediate answers from the search engine you've chosen. You can select a new search engine from the Search bar menu at any time, and add search engines from hundreds of your favorite Web sites.

Live Bookmarks
Firefox Live Bookmarks let you view Web feeds such as news and blog headlines in the bookmarks toolbar or menu. With one glance, quickly review the latest headlines from your favorite sites and click to go directly to the articles that interest you.

Pop-up Blocker
Firefox keeps you in control of the Web pages you're viewing, blocking annoying pop-ups. Firefox's pop-up blocker notifies you when pop-ups are blocked via the information bar or icon on the lower right of the screen.

Streamlined Interface
The user interface in Firefox has been updated to improve usability without altering the familiarity of the browsing experience.

Accessibility
Firefox delivers a better browsing experience for everyone - including those who are visually impaired. Firefox includes support for DHTML accessibility. Web developers can create pages that reduce the amount of tabbing required to navigate a document to minimize keystrokes for those with mobility disabilities. Firefox also includes support for Microsoft Active Accessibility, Microsoft's accessibility API standard for Windows. This support allows Firefox to work with screen readers such as GW Micro's Window-Eyes and Freedom Scientific's JAWS. Firefox (Windows version) meets US federal government requirements that software be easily accessible to users with physical impairments.

Stay Secure on the Web built-in Phishing Protection
The Web is a great place, but sometimes you'll encounter bad people. Firefox keeps you safe from spyware, hackers, scammers and spammers, using the power of a vigilant and passionate community to protect you 24/7.

Phishing Protection
Phishing Protection takes Firefox's security to a new level, helping to safeguard your financial information and protect you from identity theft. When you encounter a Web site that is a suspected forgery (known as a "phishing" site) Firefox will warn you and offer to take you to a search page so you can find the real Web site you were looking for.

Open Source, More Secure
At the heart of Firefox is an open source development process driven by thousands of passionate, experienced developers and security experts spread all over the world. Our openness and active community of experts helps to ensure our products are more secure and updated quickly, while also enabling us to take advantage of the best third party security scanning and evaluation tools to further bolster overall security.

Automated Updates
Firefox's update system always checks to see if you're running the latest version, and notifies you when a security update is available. These security updates are small (usually 200KB - 700KB), giving you only what you need and making the security update quick to download and install. The automated update system provides updates for Firefox on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux in over 40 different languages.

Protection from Spyware
Firefox will not allow a Web site to download, install, or run programs on your computer without your explicit agreement. Period. You will be notified whenever downloading or installing software, and Firefox will always tell you what's happening so that you can stay in control of your computer.

Clear Private Data
Firefox offers the ability to clear all your private Web browsing data with just one click with the "Clear Private Data" tool. You can be confident that when you clear your private data in Firefox it's gone - whether you are using your own computer or one at the library.

Personalize Your Browser make it Personal
Choose from thousands of useful Add-ons that enhance Firefox. It's easy to personalize Firefox to make it your own.

An Add-on for Everyone
You can choose from over 2,000 add-ons at the Firefox Add-ons Web site. A Firefox add-on can help you comparison shop, share bookmarks with your friends, see the weather in a corner of your browser, write to your weblog, get news, listen to music - all from inside the browser you already love. You can even change the appearance of your browser - from buttons to colors and fonts - so that it matches your own personal style. Firefox is a free Download from this website!
